I first learned about the Teal Pumpkin Project last year when my friend posted this sweet picture on Facebook of her daughter who has a rare allergic disease called eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE)….
With (EoE), whenever she eats certain foods, her body rejects it and she gets very sick. As a result, she’s been on an eating plan that’s free of dairy, corn, gluten, soy, eggs, nuts, grains, sugar, and legumes for many years. But the disease is still active and she has a very limited number of safe foods. And as you might have guessed, Halloween candy is not on that list.
What Is the Teal Pumpkin Project???
It’s a program that began in 2014 with the goal to raise awareness of food allergies and promote inclusion of all trick-or-treaters to create a safer, happier Halloween for ALL kids.
That’s right, TEAL is the new orange this Halloween.
If you want to be a part of helping kids with food allergies to enjoy all the fun of trick-or-treating on Halloween, it’s very simple. Just buy a teal pumpkin and place it on your front porch to alert kids and parents that you have non-food treats available at your house.
Some ideas include stickers, bouncy balls, glow sticks, spider rings, bubbles, whistles, coins, erasers, pencils, etc. Everything you need to know including free downloads and signs to print up for your door are available at the Teal Pumpkin Project website
And I found a deal for you! Michael’s has this Teal Craft Pumpkin by Ashland® on clearance for only $5.99 (Reg. $19.99). You can save money AND make kids feel great. That’s a WIN-WIN!
