I’m guessing one of your biggest expenses during the summer is the dreaded electric bill. Ugh! But ever since the deregulation of electricity back in January 2002, Texans have enjoyed the freedom of choosing their own retail electric provider allowing us to shop and compare offers. That means I usually switch providers every 6 to 12 months, whenever I find a better deal! If you’re not doing the same, you’re probably paying more than you should for your electricity.
If you use at least 2000 kWH each month (which we definitely do during the long, HOT summer!), take a look and see what you could be saving every month…
That monthly savings can really add up!
Most companies offer incentives and lower rates for new customers, so it’s worth taking a little bit of time to compare offers. The Power to Choose website is great for getting a look at the different rates for all the companies (and there are a bunch!). Just be sure to read the fine print! Most companies charge for early termination or have minimum usage fees, so know what you’re getting before signing up. Also, if you’re interested in a specific electric company, be sure to visit their website to find promotional offers that aren’t listed on the Power to Choose website.
In the past I’ve used Pennywise Power, 4ChangeEnergy, Green Mountain Energy, and so many more I can’t remember. I try to always select the companies with the best kilowatt per hour rate and shortest term. Whenever the contract expires, I immediately find the next great offer.
